Post Fire Logging

Right now, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is preparing to log thousands of acres of fire-impacted federal public lands across the state. Before it left office, the Trump Administration expanded the size of logging projects that need no environmental review for impacts on drinking water, recreation, wildife and other values Oregonians hold dear.  The BLM is rushing to permit the large-scale logging of fire-affected public lands with little public oversight, process or transparency, and the logging could damage thousands of acres of forest impacted by the Holiday Farm fire along the beloved McKenzie river.

“Given the size of the federal land base, experts say pressure will mount on federal managers to replace the lost harvest base and even make up the volume from industry losses on private land. And that will tee up opposition from conservation groups.”
